First time in Alberta

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My son and I will be in Calgary for short track speedskating competition end of october/beginning of november and a second time around march 20.

So I figure out I can watch him and do a bit of snowboarding.

I guess that conditions will be better in march ? right ?

Which ski resort would you  recommend ?

I'm planning to ride around 3 days.

November may be a bit dicey. Nakiska may have some carving runs open by then as they make snow. Next would be Sunshine and Lake Louise. You can even check out Norquay.

Usual opening day in a good year is 2nd weekend in November. Sunshine opened Nov 3 last year but that was unusual.  March 20, conditions are usually great unless it's a bad snow year.

For straight carving Nakiska is best but weekends are insanely crowded. I would way rather hit Louise or Sunshine, bring an AM or a softie board.

There won't be anything open at the end of October. Sunshine might open Remembrance Day if conditions are good, but it's more likely to be the weekend after.

March should be good for spring riding all over.

Oh dear - you have just guaranteed an epic Oct opening and miserable late season - you are going to have to burn a board to placate Ullr!! :)
